Your Privacy on Yappit — Plain English, No Legal Jargon

Here is the single most important thing on this page: Yappit does not record your conversations. Not your video. Not your audio. Not your text messages. Nothing. When a session ends — whether you skip, disconnect, or close your browser — your conversation is gone. There is no chat history saved. There is no database of things you said. The conversation existed in real time and only in real time.

What We Collect

Yappit does collect some information. Pretending otherwise would be dishonest, and a private random chat platform that isn't transparent about data collection isn't actually protecting your privacy — it's just hiding what it does. Here is everything we store:

• Google OAuth profile basics: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. This is what Google shares with any app you authorize. We use it to verify your identity and prevent throwaway accounts.
• Gender and country: You enter these once during profile setup. Gender is used for matchmaking preferences. Country is used for optional regional matching. Neither is shared with other users unless you choose to display it.
• Subscription status: Whether you're on a Free, Pro, or Elite tier, and the associated billing information if applicable.
• Moderation violation events: If you trigger a moderation flag, we log that a violation occurred — the timestamp and the type of violation. We do not store the content that triggered it. No screenshots, no message copies, no video frames.

What We Do Not Collect

This list matters more than the one above. Anonymous video chat only means something if the platform actually respects the "anonymous" part:

There is no analytics tracking inside the chat, video, or voice experience. We don't watch what you click, how long you spend on calls, or who you skip. Once you're in a session, the only data flowing is between you and the other person.

How Your Video Actually Travels

This is worth understanding because it's the technical reason we can make these privacy claims honestly. Yappit uses WebRTC for all video and audio communication. Here is what that means in non-technical terms:

When you start a video or voice call on Yappit, your browser connects directly to the other person's browser. Your video stream goes from your camera to their screen without passing through our servers. Our server's only role is the initial handshake — it tells your browser how to find the other person's browser, and then it steps out of the way.

This is a deliberate architectural decision. Server-relayed video would give us access to your stream. Peer-to-peer means we never see it. The trade-off is that video quality depends on both users' internet connections rather than our infrastructure — but we think that trade-off is worth it for the privacy it guarantees. Does Yappit record you? No, and the architecture makes it technically impossible for us to do so.

Data Deletion and Your Rights

You can request full deletion of your Yappit account at any time. Visit the delete my account page and follow the steps there. Here is exactly what happens when you delete:

• Deleted immediately: Your profile information (name, profile picture, gender, country), your email address, and your subscription records.
• Deleted within 7 days: Violation event logs associated with your account, and any remaining metadata in our systems.
• What we cannot delete: If you were banned for severe violations, we retain a hashed identifier to prevent you from creating a new account. This contains no personal information — it's a one-way hash that can verify "this account was banned" without revealing who you are.

If you're in the EU or another jurisdiction with data protection rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar), you have the right to request access to all data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, and request deletion. We respond to all data requests within 7 days.

Cookies

Yappit uses cookies for exactly two purposes: maintaining your login session so you don't have to sign in on every page, and storing your subscription status locally for faster page loads. That's it. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.
